Define your art:
Allowing ideas to transcend languages.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?
I don’t believe in “perfect” happiness.  I believe in being happy despite the fact that life is never perfect.

What determines your future, fate or free will?
Free will, mostly, with a little luck thrown in.

What do you respect more, power or wealth?
I respect using one’s wealth to empower others.

Are you bound by honor or duty?
I’m bound by love.

Describe Mexico in one word:
Colour.

What do you say when you talk about Mexico?
I talk about the culture and the tradition of Mexico. I talk about the colors and the vibrancy of Mexico. I talk about how there is music everywhere, art everywhere, laughter everywhere. I talk about the drug violence that has caused all of my husband’s family and friends to leave their hometown and state, but I passionately defend the safety of Mexico as a whole. I say that it is not the country to which I was born, but it is the country I have chosen.

If you did not live in Mexico, where would you go?
I’ve always been a traveler and there are still so many places I’d like to see but at this moment, I’m perfectly content to live in Mexico and I don’t imagine living somewhere else.

What national icon inspires you most and why?
The things that inspire me about Mexico are maybe not national icons but are still iconic to me. It’s the little things that fill my heart with Mexico... The way people sing so loudly at Mexican parties, the bright colors and rich decoration everywhere... Those are the things that make me stop and remember how much I love it here.

What is your favorite news source?
CBC, CNN, the Huffington Post and when nobody is looking, US Weekly.

What would you say is the best Mexican book/movie/artwork?
I don’t know about the best, but the first book that I remember reading that made me want to come to Mexico was “Like water for chocolate” by Laura Esquivel.

Describe a perfect Mexican food:
Because I live near the ocean, I love fish tacos. They taste like summer.

What makes a country great?
A dedication to ensuring education, health care, fair wages and opportunity for all of its residents.

What is the biggest challenge in Mexico?
The lack of the dedication mentioned above. Poverty does not need to exist here. Mexico is a wealth of mismanaged resources.
