What is your idea of happiness?
Happiness is like a chocolate cake: you can be satisfied by just the idea and the smell of it, but when you have it in your hands you need to really savor and enjoy each of your slices.

What determines your future: fate or free will?
The design of our future is based on our own will. Destiny puts us in front of obstacles that we must choose to defeat.

What do you respect more, power or wealth?
I'm kind of low profile. I've never been powerful or wealthy but I’ve seen people who think they are superior because they have power or money. I feel very fortunate to come from a poor family because I can appreciate my surroundings from a perspective that can never be understood or realized  by people born with silver spoons.

Are you bound by honor or duty?
I have a duty to respect the honor of those who taught me how amazing the experience of life is.

Describe Mexico in a word:
Diversity.

What do you say when you talk about Mexico?
I say that although Mexico has a lot of social problems now and in our history, we’re a country full of natural resources that’s really reflected in the warmth of our people.

If you didn’t live in Mexico, where would you? Or why do you live in Mexico?
I’m attracted to the idea of cold weather and I’d love to live in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico at some point in my life. And also Reykjavik, Iceland is one of those cities I’ve always wanted to visit. I feel like the desolate landscapes in Iceland could inspire me to new levels as a writer.

What national icon inspires you most, and why?
The eagle emblem on the flag is a symbol that inspires me to fight to keep my roots and protect my country.

What is your favorite news source?
I am not loyal to any news source. With so many rumors about news agencies in general, it is difficult to become attached to any. Luckily the Internet is a huge mix of opinions that we can access and generate our own point of view.

The best Mexican book:
"La Feria" by Juan Jose Arreola because it illustrates so well the Mexican customs during the preparation or patron saint feasts. There are no main characters; the story is the voice of the people.

Describe a perfect Mexican food:
Red enchiladas: corn tortilla, cheese, tomato sauce, onion, green pepper and cilantro. So delicious tasting ,easily prepared  with a little patience and it’s a beautiful dish showing our national colors.

What makes a country great?
The attitude of its people. If we continue with our apathy we won’t get anywhere, but we can’t just mount socio-revolutionary activism on the social networks. But when we learn to engage people from every level of community, the country will begin to change.

What is the biggest challenge facing Mexico now?
Ending the drug war that has victimized more than 60,000 people to have the funding to improve the living conditions for the lower classes in our society. There are more than 52 million poor people on our streets. The struggle to distribute wealth in Mexico needs be studied consciously and prioritized before anything else.
